New report highlights strengths and opportunities across Parkinson’s services
The network’s Parkinson’s Pathway Development Project, funded by Parkinson’s UK, has recently completed a regional benchmarking report. For the first time, we now have a comprehensive overview of Parkinson’s services across all boroughs in Greater Manchester as well as Eastern Cheshire.
Developed with input from clinicians including doctors, allied health professionals, specialist nursing services and people with lived experience, the report reviews local services against national guidance and identifies opportunities to support a more joined-up and consistent approach to Parkinson’s care across the region.
The benchmarking exercise identified many examples of high-quality care, including strong specialist nursing provision, multidisciplinary team working, community rehabilitation services and medication management. The report also highlighted opportunities to improve coordination between services, strengthen mental health support pathways and increase awareness of available support for people living with Parkinson’s and their carers.
The findings will help inform the next phase of pathway development, supporting partners across the region to build on existing strengths and reduce unwarranted variation in care.
