Post Stroke Pain Management Webinar
Purpose
This webinar aims to improve clinician confidence and competence in assessing and managing post-stroke pain through a holistic, patient-centred approach aligned to NICE and Royal College of Physicians (RCP) guidance. It will support community and rehabilitation clinicians to apply evidence-based strategies, recognise escalation thresholds, and embed person-centred care into everyday practice.
Learning Outcomes
- Improve understanding of post-stroke pain mechanisms to support accurate assessment and targeted management.
- Strengthen evidence-based pain management skills aligned to NICE and RCP guidance, with a focus on rehabilitation-led and non-pharmacological approaches.
- Clarify escalation and referral thresholds to support timely referral to specialist services.
- Build confidence in person-centred pain management, including shared decision-making, goal-setting and self-management to optimise quality of life.
Speaker Details
After completing his specialist training in Cambridge, Tarek moved to Wigan in 2002 as a consultant in rehabilitation medicine. He specialises in the long-term management of most neurological conditions such as Multiple Sclerosis, brain and spinal injuries.
Until his semi-retirement two years ago, he provided care to patients from Wigan and Bolton. He now focuses his practice solely on Wigan. His current clinical and research interests centre on the assessment and management of ME/CFS, Long Covid, and Functional Neurological Disorders.
Dr Tarek Gaber has more than 50 peer reviewed publications and his book Case Studies in Neurological Rehabilitation ‘’Cambridge University Press) was translated to 3 languages.
