Domestic abuse in the context of ABI training
We were delighted to collaborate with the UK Acquired Brain Injury Forum (North West & North Wales) to host training on the often invisible impact of domestic abuse in the context of acquired brain injury. The UKABIF Forum team were pleased to welcome the Mayor of Trafford, who attended to show their support for this important issue.

Held on the 26th March, the face‑to‑face event in Eccles welcomed more than 100 attendees from across the region. The session brought together professionals, advocates, and people with lived experience to explore new and effective ways to support individuals affected by brain injury across the UK.
The training, delivered by experts in the field, provided education, insight, and practical tools aimed at raising awareness and sharing knowledge across communities and services. Particular focus was given to domestic violence, strangulation, and the impact of brain injury.
Speakers included:
- Dr. Annemarie Burns, Consultant Clinical Neuropsychologist, Brainkind and North London Foundation NHS Trust.
- Professor Catherine White, Medical Director, Institute for Addressing Strangulation
- Dr. Czarina Kirk FRCPsych, Consultant Neuropsychiatrist at the Forensic Brain Injury Service at Guild Lodge
