Further grant award for Parkinson’s project
We have also recently successful is being awarded funding to support a new initiative to improve local care provided to people affected by Parkinson’s. Parkionson’s UK have awarded a collaboration faciliated by the network a sum of £12,000 for the new project which will start in December.
The funding will support network Facilitator time will follow in the footsteps our highly succesful Motor Neurone Disease collaboration that has been runing since 2022. It will bring together key stakeholders including neurologists, Parkinson’s nurses, local charities and importantly poeple with lived experience.
Support for the condition can be confusing, and care can feel disjointed for those affected. We know from listening to our patients and carers that there are areas they feel the NHS can do better at:
- The length of time to receive a diagnosis from a specialist
- Seemingly random access to local services after diagnosis – a postcode lottery of care across different boroughs
- Often inadequate provision and signposting of important information that would help to better understand and manage the condition
- Insufficient and often haphazard referral to other services by clinical teams
The project will look at what is currently being provided to better understand where the opportunities for change lie.
