Transfer to local hospital

Patients brought to a Hyper Acute Stroke Unit (HASU) are normally transferred (also called repatriation) by ambulance to their District Stroke Centre in their local hospital within 3 days.

However, some patients may remain at the HASU for longer if they are too unwell to move, and will only be transferred to their hospital when they are well enough to do so.
